High school sweethearts pass away holding hands after 58 years of marriage
'You hear this on the movies...' - says daughter
Two high school sweethearts have passed away together, holding hands, after 58 years of marriage.
George and Ora Lee Rodriguez celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary together on June 1, just over a month before they died.
George passed away on Tuesday night. Just three hours later, Ora Lee passed away as well, surrounded by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The couple had suffered from dementia and George had suffered a stroke a few months ago.
Their daughter Cortina Martinez told Fox News Latino their story was like the emotional film, 'The Notebook'.
"I just can't believe something like this would ever happen, you hear this on the movies ... like 'The Notebook'," she said.
"They were both here, we had them here at the house, in their hospital beds, right beside each other, they were holding hands."
A second daughter, Georgia Perez, added: "My mother would always say that she was going to take my father or vice versa, and it did happen, we didn't think it would, but it did."
