Judge sentences girl to a haircut

A US judge agreed to reduce his sentence on a teenage girl who bullied a toddler, provided her mother cut off her pony tail in court.

The 13-year-old girl was sent to juvenile court in Utah after admitting cutting off a three-year-old's hair. The mother, Valerie Bruno, agreed, but has now filed a formal complaint against Judge Scott Johansen.

Thieves put their best feet forward

Shoplifters in New York have discovered they can steal a left shoe from the display in one store and the matching right shoe from another.

The owner of one Bronx trainer shop said the thieves do their research. They know before they steal a left shoe which store has a right shoe of the same size and style on display. Some shops are tying shoes to walls so no one will walk off with them.

Aniston the best road-trip friend

Jennifer Aniston is the perfect friend to share a long-distance road trip with, according to a survey of film fans.

The actress, who shot to fame as Rachel Green in US sitcom 'Friends', picked up 13.5pc of the votes in the poll. She was followed by Simon Pegg, who starred in the alien road-trip movie 'Paul'.

Giant tortoise goes belly-up

The giant tortoise Lonesome George, whose failed efforts to produce offspring made him a symbol of the disappearing species, has been found dead, officials at the Galapagos National Park have said.

Lonesome George was believed to be the last living member of the Pinta island subspecies and had become an ambassador of sorts for the islands off Ecuador's coast.

Kylie gets gong for 25-year career

Kylie Minogue is to pick up a special prize at the O2 Silver Clef Awards to mark her 25 years in music.

The pop princess -- who is celebrating 25 years since her first single -- will be honoured at the annual ceremony which recognises top music acts. The event -- in aid of music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins -- is being staged at the London Hilton on Friday.
