John Paul to be saint by year end
The late pope John Paul II will be made a saint by the end of the year, after a commission of cardinals approved a second miracle attributed to him.
Two miracles are required for canonisation. The first, the recovery of a French nun from Parkinson's disease, paved the way for his beatification in 2011, six years after his death in 2005.
The Vatican has yet to release details of the second miracle, but it is understood to concern the healing of a severely ill woman from Costa Rica on the day the former pope was beatified.
