Irish visit 'lie' exposed by zealous blogger
When Sarah Palin was introduced as the US vice-presidential candidate to partner John McCain, her spokesman was asked if she had ever travelled abroad.
The answer seemed emphatic, even if there was a worryingly-short list of places she had been too: Germany, Kuwait, and Ireland.
Although it must be borne in mind that Ms Palin had not even applied for a US passport or travelled overseas until last year,
Now, according to the Huffington Post, one of America's most influential gossip websites, a humble Irish blogger has forced a retraction from the Palin camp.
When Dubliner Suzy Byrne questioned the claim the politician had visited Ireland, the VP candidate's team admitted there had never really been an Irish visit, just a fuel stopover at Shannon Airport.
"The Ireland trip was a refuelling stop on her trip to military installations in Germany and Kuwait," said Palin spokeswoman Maria Comella.
The Huffington Post hailed Ms Byrne yesterday for stepping forward "to call blarney on that . . . give it up to the international blogosphere, folks, because as it turns out, Byrne was absolutely correct.
"Do you need anything from duty free, America?" the site asked yesterday.
