In brief: Teenage athletes started sex league

MALE teenage athletes at a San Francisco school formed what they called a "Fantasy Slut League", awarding points for sex with female students.

Piedmont High School principal Rich Kitchens said the so-called league, which had existed for up to six years, had been disbanded.

Woman 'faked her kidnap' for day off

A TEXAN has been accused of faking her own kidnap to get a day off work.

According to her arrest warrant, a San Antonio police officer found Sheila Eubank (48) bound with rope and asleep in her car. She told the officer a man had kidnapped her at knifepoint as she drove up to a cash machine but police said CCTV did not match her claim.

'Lowbrow' lap dances get taxed

LAP dances are taxable because they don't promote culture in a community the way ballet or other artistic endeavours do, New York's highest court has concluded.

The court split 4-3, with the dissenting judges saying there's no distinction in state law between "highbrow dance and lowbrow dance," so the case raises "significant constitutional problems."

Man interrupts his own funeral

POLICE say a 41-year-old car washer shocked his family when he interrupted a funeral being held for him at his mother's home in the town of Alagoinhas in northeastern Brazil.

Police inspector Roberto Lima said Jose Marcos Araujo identified a body at the city morgue as being that of his brother, Gilberto. But he said that several hours before the burial "a friend of Gilberto's saw him walking down the street and told him that his family was mourning him".

Californian surfer killed by shark

AUTHORITIES say a Californian surfer has been killed by a shark off a beach at coastal Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department said in a statement that the attack was witnessed by a friend of the victim, who swam to his aid and pulled him out of the ocean. The friend started first aid while another surfer called for help, but the victim was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
