Hospital probe as man bitten by rat

BRITISH health officials have launched an investigation after a man was attacked by a rat as he lay sedated in his hospital bed.

The family of Jason Ketley say he was bitten repeatedly by the rat shortly after going to bed in a specialist care unit at St Ebba's hospital in Epsom, Surrey.

'Sofa King low' ad a fall in standards

AN advertisement for a furniture store named The Sofa King has been blacklisted for claiming its prices were "Sofa King Low".

The slogan -- which appears on the Northampton firm's shopfront and vehicles -- sparked complaints to police.

Camilla wears a mail-order dress

CAMILLA Parker-Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall, took a leaf out of the Duchess of Cambridge's fashion book yesterday when she donned a cut-price dress -- from a mail-order catalogue -- at a reception celebrating the achievements of outstanding women.

It is thought to be a rare occasion when a member of the Royal Family has worn an outfit bought from a clothing catalogue.

Malaysia cancels gig in tattoo row

THE Malaysian government has cancelled a concert by US singer Erykah Badu after a publicity photo showed her with the Arabic word for "Allah" tattooed on her upper body.

Officials say the photo of Ms Badu was "an insult to Islam". The Grammy-award winner was due to perform in Kuala Lumpur today and is said to be dismayed at the news.

Teen pregnancies hit a record low

THE teenage pregnancy rate in England and Wales has reached its lowest level since 1969.

The under-18 conception rate in 2010 was 35.5pc per 1,000 women aged 15 to 17, compared with 38.3pc in 2009, according to official figures released yesterday.

Hudson on murder trial witness list

OSCAR-winner Jennifer Hudson has been named on the witness list for the trial of a man accused of killing her mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew.

William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister, Julia, is due to stand trial on April 9 accused of murdering Hudson's mother, Darnell Donnerson (57), brother Jason (29) and nephew, Julian King in the family's home on Chicago's South Side in 2008.
