TEMPERATURES are set to continue soaring across much of Europe today.

Most of the UK enjoyed temperatur-es in the high 20s in recent days, but at Cavendish, in Suffolk, the mercury reached a high of 32.4C, eclipsing the previous high of 31.4C recorded at London's Olympic Park on July 25.

Much of the UK was hotter than popular European holiday destinations such as Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, where tourists enjoyed top temperatures of 29.8C.

The Caribbean islands are currently experiencing temperatures of between 30C and 32C.

Large parts of Europe were savouring the weather too and it was remarkably hot in parts of France and Italy, with Paris experiencing highs of almost 39C and Florence 38C.

The mini heatwave also led to Ladbrokes slashing the odds of the temperature soaring to 100F (37.8C) before the end of the month to 10/1 from 20/1.
