Gun tattoo arrest

A man with a realistic-looking tattoo of a gun on his stomach had the real thing tucked into his waistband when he was arrested, police in the US revealed.

Police in Maine said 41-year-old Michael Smith told police he had a fight with his ex-girlfriend and had stolen prescription narcotics from her. He was charged with stealing drugs, and the gun was confiscated.

GREENPEACE LOSES BET

Greenpeace International has said it lost €3.8m on a bet that the euro would not strengthen against other currencies in 2013 – but it did.

The environmental group, which is based in Amsterdam, said the money was lost by an employee who acted beyond the limits of his authority but had hoped to benefit the organisation. The employee has been fired and the group apologised for the blunder.

DOMINO'S PIZZA APP

Pizza delivery chain Domino's is introducing its own version of Siri.

The firm plans to introduce a function on its mobile app that lets customers place orders by speaking with a computer-generated voice named Dom. Officials said the updated app for iPhones and Android devices will deliver a "human-like, conversational" experience.

PATERNITY PLAN

Statutory paternity leave in the UK should be twice as long and paid at almost twice the present rate to encourage fathers to spend time with newborns, a think-tank said.

MAN RESCUED FROM SEA

A man trying to row across the Atlantic from New York to a Scottish island was rescued during a storm by a US Coast Guard team who plucked him from choppy waters off Long Island, an official with the agency said.

Niall Iain Macdonald (39) of Scotland was about 50 nautical miles from the coast when he sent out a distress call by satellite phone saying he had been injured.

WHIRLWIND WEDDING

Kelly Brook admits her whirlwind romance with fiance David McIntosh has caught her by surprise and described the engagement as "the most humbling, beautiful moment" of her life.

The model and 'Celebrity Juice' panellist told 'Hello!' magazine: "I think it took both of us by surprise, to be honest, how quickly things have progressed."
