Girl (9) is drunk dad's driver

A FATHER got his nine-year-old daughter to drive him around because he was too drunk to take the wheel.

The man was caught on surveillance video in a Detroit service station, saying she was his "designated driver". The girl was sitting behind the wheel in a child's booster seat when an officer found them.

Woman gets $4 for sibling's war death

A SOUTH Korean woman has been offered a little over $4 (€2.90) in government compensation for the death of her brother during the Korean War, embarrassing officials who say they were bound by an outdated law.

The woman was two years old when her brother was killed in combat in 1950 but never knew of his existence until told of his death by a neighbour, as their mother had suffered from dementia.

Vatican considers women's rights

THE Vatican has proposed giving hundreds of women who live like nuns within the troubled Legion of Christ order greater autonomy after a Holy See investigation found serious problems in their regimented communities.

The Pope's delegate running the Legion said of particular concern was that the women had no legal status in the church.

Former taxi driver to be mummified

A FORMER taxi driver from Devon has become the first person for 3,000 years to be mummified in the same way as the Egyptian pharaohs.

TV viewers will see Alan Billis (61), who died from cancer, turned into a mummy in a new Channel 4 documentary, 'Mummifying Alan: Egypt's Last Secret', to be screened on Monday, October 24.

Thieves chased out of pub by regulars

THREE raiders got more than they bargained for as they were attacked and chased out of a pub by regulars.

The trio of raiders burst into the Sylvan Pub in Manchester shortly before closing time but a number of regular customers were still in the pub and, along with staff, fought off the men.

Doctors go on trial for live organ theft

TWO doctors have gone on trial in Sao Paulo, Brazil, accused of removing organs for transplant from patients who were still alive.

Pedro Torrecillas and Rui Sacramento used fake death certificates to extract kidneys from the victims, who had agreed to donate organs after their death. The patients died after the operations.
