Five people shot dead at health spa

POLICE have confirmed that five people were shot dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a spa in Atlanta, US.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the person who did the shooting at the Su Jung Health Sauna on Tuesday was among the dead.

Le Pen ordered to reveal backers

FRENCH far-right leader Marine Le Pen has lost a legal battle in her bid to run for president, with the Constitutional Court ruling that her backers' names must be made public.

It is an indirect victory for President Nicolas Sarkozy, who is trying to secure a second term.

Candy workplace was not so sweet

US federal labour officials announced they found nine workplace violations at a candy repackaging and distribution facility owned by Hershey and operated by Exel.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration proposed penalties of $283,000 (€213,000) against Exel after inspections at the plant, which was the site of protests last summer by foreign student workers.

University cancels gay performer

A UNIVERSITY in the US has cancelled a workshop on personal narrative by a gay performance artist, saying his shows are not in keeping with its Catholic values.

Artist Tim Miller said he was scheduled to lead the five-day workshop in April for students at Villanova University in Pennysylvania but the university abruptly scrapped it on Sunday.

Titanic menu goes under the hammer

A POIGNANT reminder of the last lunch on board the Titanic is expected to fetch up to £100,000 (€120,000) when it goes under the hammer.

A menu, dated April 14, 1912, shows the lavish fare offered to first-class passengers on the last day on board. Dishes included eggs Argenteuil, consomme fermier, chicken a la Maryland, galantine of chicken and grilled mutton chops. The sale is being held by Henry Aldridge & Son, leading auctioneers of Titanic memorabilia.

Boy slept through theft of dad's car

A BOY aged six who was asleep in the back of a car when it was stolen in New York was still asleep half an hour later when it was found.

His father had left the car running while he went into a shop and thieves pounced. The father has now been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
