Fans go Knuts at plans to stuff dead polar bear

THOUSANDS of outraged fans of a celebrity polar bear will hold a demonstration at Berlin Zoo today against plans to stuff him.

The bear, Knut, won worldwide fame as a cute cub who defied long odds of surviving after his mother rejected him.

He died suddenly in front of hundreds of stunned visitors on March 19, aged four, after he fell unconscious into a pool.

The polar bear suffered from encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain, which caused him to collapse before he drowned, post-mortem results revealed yesterday.

The zoo plans to stuff the predator for display at Berlin's Natural History Museum.
