Young woman surprises boyfriend with Las Vegas holiday for his 30th birthday - but booked from the wrong Birmingham
A couple arrived at Birmingham airport intending to jet off on a dream holiday in Las Vegas - but discovered the flight they had booked was actually departing from Birmingham in Alabama.
Ben Marlow received a very generous 30th birthday gift from his girlfriend Richella Heekin (26) of a trip to Las Vegas.
However, the reasonably-priced flights that Richella paid for with two years of savings actually departed from the southeastern US state instead of the UK.
The airport code for Birmingham, UK is (BHX) while the code for Birmingham, Alabama is (BHM) - and this one letter made all the difference.
"I looked at the departure board and there's no flights," Ms Heekin, 26, told the BBC.
"Richella's face has just gone red and she's in tears," recounted Mr Marlow.
"I was like - we're not going to Vegas then. I was more gutted for Richella than myself because it was a surprise."
The carers for special needs children - who had planned to fly from Birmingham to Dallas and on to Las Vegas - were unable to exchange the £1,200 flights.
Despite carrying presents of US dollars for their dream trip, the devastated couple decided to book a trip to Amsterdam rather than return home.
