WikiLeaks saga: Prince Charles fails 'to command same respect as Queen'
PRINCE Charles' suitability as the future head of the Commonwealth has been questioned by a senior figure from the global institution.
Amitav Banerji, the Commonwealth Secretariat's director of political affairs, said Charles does not "command the same respect" as the Queen, in US diplomatic cables obtained by WikiLeaks. Mr Banerji, who is chief political adviser to the Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma, also stated that the institution was actively trying to get the prince more involved with its work. The confidential cable said the director: "Acknowledged that heir-apparent to the British Crown, Prince Charles, does not 'command the same respect' as the Queen ."
But the American officer stated in his report that the director also noted that "succession" was not being actively discussed within the Commonwealth.
