WATCH: Knife-wielding robbers wearing Scream masks scared off by elderly shopkeeper waving her stick
An elderly shopkeeper was forced to defend her store with nothing but a stick, as three armed men wearing Scream masks attempted to rob it.
Sharinder Gill, 66, jumped to action as her business came under attack, repeatedly striking the knife-wielding attackers, eventually driving them out empty-handed.
Her husband Rasham (66) was also in the shop at the time and fought the attackers off alongside his wife. The pair have owned their shop in Arnold, Nottinghamshire for 26 years
Mrs Gill told The Mirror that her response was instinctive.
"I was filling fridges when these three young men burst into the shop wearing masks. It was very scary but I did not have time to think" she said
"I just acted on instinct. I thought this is my business and this is my livelihood, and you will not take it off me."
"So I gave them a good smack with a stick we have behind the counter. I was not going to hand over our hard-earned cash to those thugs."
Footage released by Nottinghamshire Police shows the men running into Shergill Stores brandishing knives and demanding money. A third man stood by the door while the attempted robbery took place on Wednesday at around 9.40pm
Officers said the men are believed to be aged 18 or 19 and have asked anyone with information to call them.
