The two Cockenzie Power Station chimneys that were landmarks in East Lothian, Scotland are demolished in a controlled explosion

Two iconic power station chimneys in eastern Scotland were demolished on Saturday.

The twin chimney stacks at the former Cockenzie Power Station in East Lothian were blown up in a controlled explosion.

Thousands of people gathered to watch the demolition, which took place at at midday.

The 149-metre (489-feet) tall chimney stacks had dominated the local skyline for the past 50 years.

The power station was decommissioned in March 2013.
