Video: Greek Orchestra in tears at last concert in ERT closure
MEMBERS of the Greek National Symphony Orchestra and Chorus broke down in tears in its last performance as part of the closure of public broadcaster ERT.
Along with the 75-year-old radio orchestra, the music ensemble, founded in 1954, gave its last performance in a sweltering rehearsal room – the air conditioning had been switched off.
They played Elgar’s stirring “Nimrod” from the Enigma Variations.
The video was posted on Norman Lebrecht’s Slipped Disc blog.
Despite the Greek government saying the broadcaster would resume some operations in the future, the fate of the orchestra remains uncertain with Greece in the throes of an economic crisis.
