UK cash bonds to 'deter illegal immigrants'

James Kirkup

TOURISTS coming to Britain from India, Pakistan and Nigeria will have to pay a £3,000 (€3,525) cash bond before arriving, under changes to the immigration system.

UK Home Secretary Theresa May will launch a pilot scheme this year which she said would reduce illegal immigration.

Under the scheme, the visitors will have to make a payment before being granted a visa. Those who are not proven to have left when the visa expires will forfeit the money.

The pilot scheme will also cover Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Ghana. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
