Trial date set for 'Street' star Roache
'Coronation Street' star Bill Roache will face trial in January over allegations of historic sexual offences against five girls.
The 81-year-old actor was charged in May with two counts of raping a 15-year-old girl in 1967, and last week he faced fresh charges of five indecent assaults involving four girls aged between 11 or 12 and 16.
Roache appeared yesterday for a five-minute preliminary hearing at Preston Crown Court. His trial date was set for January 13.
He was bailed until his next court appearance on September 2 when he will enter formal pleas.
Meanwhile, his former 'Coronation Street' colleague Andrew Lancel was yesterday cleared of four counts of indecently assaulting a 15-year-old boy.
Lancel (42) who played Frank Foster in the soap, was cleared of four charges relating to the youngster dating back to 1994.
The jury took just 29 minutes to clear the star of all counts.
Lancel bit his lip and looked to the ceiling as his wife Louise burst into tears when the verdict was delivered at Liverpool Crown Court.
