A 16-year-old girl has been killed and seven others wounded following the explosion of a device in a rubbish bin outside a vocational high school in southern Italy.
The bomb went off just before 8am in the Adriatic port town of Brindisi just as students were arriving for class at Francesca Morvillo Falcone vocational school.
The school is named after the wife of murdered anti-mafia prosecutor Giovanni Falcone. The couple and three of their bodyguards were killed by a mafia bomb in Sicily 20 years ago this weekend.
However, authorities said it was unclear if there was an organised crime link to the blast. As yet, no one has claimed responsibility for the explosion
