Swift takes Grammys swipe at Styles

Singing star Taylor Swift appeared to mock ex-boyfriend Harry Styles over their break-up as she opened the Grammy Awards ceremony.

The US star put on a fake British accent in an ad-lib section of her hit We Are Never Getting Back Together in a pretend call to a former lover. The event also saw major wins for Mumford & Sons, who collected two trophies at the Los Angeles event, plus Adele and Sir Paul McCartney.

Folk-rock band the Mumfords collected what is often seen as the key award of the night, album of the year, for their second release Babel, to their surprise.

Frontman Marcus Mumford, who picked up the award from Adele, said: "We figured we weren't going to win anything because The Black Keys have been sweeping up all day, rightfully so."

Swift opened the star-studded event at the Staples Center with a spectacular Alice In Wonderland-themed performance, wearing a Mad Hatter-style top hat. And during a middle section of her track, she seemed to be referring to her split from One Direction star Styles, which ended last month following a Caribbean break.

"So he calls me up and he's like, 'I still love you,'" she said, briefly adopting a British twang. Swift went on: "And I'm like, 'I'm sorry. I'm busy opening up the Grammys, and we are never, ever getting back together. Like ever'."

The interlude punctuated an incredible performance by the 23-year-old singer, who parted from 19-year-old Styles earlier this year after a holiday to the British Virgin Islands went sour.

It may make life uncomfortable at the Brit Awards next week when both Swift and Styles will be in attendance to perform at the show, staged at London's O2 Arena.

The Grammys saw Adele continuing her run of success by picking up the award for pop solo performance for her song Set Fire To The Rain (Live), which features on her best-selling album 21.

The singer - who showed off a tattoo of the letter A behind her ear, possibly in honour of new son Angelo - picked up six awards at last year's Grammys following the release of her second album. Adele is due to perform her Golden Globe-winning James Bond theme Skyfall at the Oscars and has already begun work on her third album.
