Shots fired and police make arrests during security operation in France Newsdesk Newsdesk

Several shots were fired and a number of arrests were made during a large police operation in the French city of Lyon this morning.

According to LeProgress officers from the RAID national police service attended the scene on Montesquieu Street in the 7th Arrondisement of Lyon.

Shots were fire during the incident which reportedly happened at a metro station.

The suspects were said to have taken refuge in a local community.

At 9:10 am (local time) police announced that the operation had ended.

However, a security cordon remained in place and people are advised to avoid the area.
