Shocking CCTV footage released following 'predatory attack' on young woman on busy road Newsdesk Newsdesk

Police have released CCTV footage of a man they wish to speak to in connection with a sexual assault in Manchester.

A young woman (25) was attempting to cross Cheetham Hill Road shortly before 7pm on February 5.

She became uncomfortable when she realised that a man was walking closely behind her and crossed Corporation Road to create some distance from him.

As she waited for the traffic to slow in order to cross the street safely, the man - described as being white and in his 50s - sexually assaulted her.

The victim screamed at the man, who was of medium build and stood between 5ft 8in and 6ft tall, and he walked off down Corporation St.

The offender was wearing a dark coloured beanie hat and a dark coat at the time of the incident.

He had dark grey stubble and moustache and was carrying a rucksack.

Constable Rebecca Lovekin of the Greater Manchester Police said that "this was a predatory attack that came about after this offender followed the victim down the street.

"He waited until she was trapped between the busy crossing and him before sexually assaulting this terrified woman.

"She leapt into the busy road to escape him, putting herself in further danger, and the offender walks away.

"If you recognise this man, help us prevent any further attacks and come forward to police."

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 050216/2233 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
