Queen of Kingdom: Kate has Kerry roots
GENEALOGISTS say they have found a link between Kate Middleton and Brian Boru – but one rural parish is claiming her as "one of our own".
Lixnaw, in Co Kerry, is proudly boasting that "half the parish" is related to the Duchess of Cambridge.
Local businessman and genealogy buff, Frank Quilter, says even Kerry football manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice is probably a distant cousin.
"She is related to half the parish and she's one of our own, so don't let anyone else take a flight of fancy and claim her," Mr Quilter told the Irish Independent.
"She is related to the Fitzmaurices, who were in Lixnaw since about 1100, like ourselves and other 'old stock'," he said.
Genealogists' research shows the duchess is related to the noble family in north Kerry through the Lupton family from Yorkshire.
The royal mum-to-be braved the bad weather yesterday to help out at a snow-covered scout camp in the Lake District.
Wrapped up warm in a parka coat, Kate taught scouts how to light a fire in the freezing conditions and helped to make bread twists – getting her priceless sapphire and diamond engagement ring covered in dough.
