Police have quizzed a French writer who claims former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn attempted to rape her in 2003.
The interview by French police of Tristane Banon (32) was the first step in a preliminary inquiry since she filed a criminal complaint against Mr Strauss-Kahn (62) last week.
The one-time Socialist French presidential hopeful already faces charges of attempting to rape a hotel maid in New York but doubts over the maid's credibility have brought the investigation to the verge of collapse.
Prosecutors will decide later this year whether Mr Strauss-Kahn should be sent to trial over Ms Banon's claims.
Mr Strauss-Kahn's lawyers called Ms Banon's claims "imaginary" and said they were considering suing her for slander. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
