Panda Express flies happy couple to new home

TIAN Tian and Yang Guang arrived at Edinburgh Airport, Scotland, at 1pm yesterday on a specially chartered non-stop flight from China. The eight-year-old giant pandas were destined for Edinburgh Zoo, which will be their new home for the next 10 years.

Tian Tian, whose name means 'sweetie', and Yang Guang, meaning 'sunlight', travelled on a flight dubbed the 'Panda Express' with a vet, two animal handlers and four pilots with extensive experience transporting some of the world's most precious cargo, including white rhinos and penguins.

Tian Tian and Yang Guang were given an in-flight meal of bamboo, apples, carrots and 'panda cake'.

It is hoped the breeding pair will eventually give birth to cubs.
