The moment two criminals ran into an off license and bit the owner on the head has been captured on CCTV.

The shop owner has released the footage to the public in an attempt to find the two attackers.

Kanapathipillai Thivakaran (40) was in the middle of restocking the shop in Cambridgeshire at around 3am, when the criminals appeared.

The attack, which took place on January 10, began with the two banging on the doors asking for cigarettes. When Mr Thivakaran opened the door to ask them to leave, they overpowered him and tried to steal cash and cigarettes.

Despite being punched to the ground, Mr Thivakaran grabbed at them and tried to use a baseball bat to defend himself.

Not long after, the bat snapped in two and one of the thieves but him on the head, leaving a nasty open wound.

Mr Thivakaran had already pressed a panic button, but by the time the police arrived, the two had left the area.

He was brought to hospital and needed six stitches. Mr Thivakaran now says he is scared to work in the shop by himself.

Police in the area say they are reviewing the CCTV footage and that enquiries are continuing.
