Man and woman die in hospital after house fire rescue
Two people have died after being rescued from a house fire.
The man and a woman, both aged 40, were discovered after fire crews were called to a house on Bridge Farm Drive in Maghull, Merseyside, at about 11.15pm on Saturday.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and discovered a significant fire on the first floor of the house.
They immediately began to search the property and tackle the blaze with hose reels, a spokesman for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said.
During the search of the house, a man and a woman were rescued by firefighters. Both casualties were unconscious and not breathing.
Firefighters and paramedics carried out emergency first aid while a search continued for any more people in the house. No further casualties were found.
Both casualties were taken to University Hospital Aintree by ambulance but were later confirmed dead.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service's incident investigation team and Merseyside Police are carrying out a joint investigation into the cause of the fire.
It is believed there were no smoke alarms at the property.
