Man (22) died after stopping to take a selfie on busy motorway
A young man was killed on a busy German motorway after he reportedly stopped to take photographs with friends.
Dean Steele (22) was in Gudow, Schleswig-Holstein with two friends when the incident occurred on Saturday evening.
He and his pals were on the crash barrier on the Auto-Bahn, taking selfies when the incident occurred according to witnesses.
Dean, from Scotland, was on holidays in Germany with his pals and they were celebrating a Celtic win earlier in the day.
He was hit by a 73-year-old man and died at the scene.
His friends were unharmed but were treated for shock.
“They came to Germany for a short trip to party and have fun," an Autobahnpolizei Talkau police spokesman said, the Scottish Sun reports,,
“They spent the night at a motel on the Autobahn A24 near Gudow, only some feet away from where the accident happened. The three friends were drunk when they entered the Autobahn.
“Witnesses reported seeing them taking ‘selfies’ on the road.
“The 22 year old victim died instantly.”
However friends have disputed that the pals were taking selfies, insisting they were crossing the road to get a bus.
A JustGiving page has been set up to help Dean's family cover the cost of repatriating the young man's body to Scotlland.
Staff at his local pub have also begun raising money to help his family.
