SUPERMODEL has jetted off to celebrate her significant birthday in the sun, and has lots of presents to unwrap when she gets back.

Already couriers have been delivering designer gifts and balloons to her north London home,  including gifts from Givenchy, but she is believed to be thousands of miles away celebrating on Neckar island celebrating with a select group of friends and husband.

First spotted at JFK aiport in New York when she was 14, the waifish teen from south London went on to become one of the highest paid models in the world, gracing thousands of magazine covers wearing everything from high street to haute couture.

She has walked down countless catwalks since a photoshoot in style magazine 'The Face' made her a star.

Kate's party lifestyle, and a string of celebrity partners, including 'Pirates of the Caribbean' star Johnny Depp and Pete Doherty of Babyshambles, have kept her in the headlines for years.

In her professional life, she has worked with almost every major fashion designer, including Louis Vuitton and Stella McCartney, as well as being the face of make-up company Rimmel.

On the eve of her big birthday, Kate posed for Playboy in bunny ears and high heels and her next fashion collaboration with Topshop is due out in April.

In the fashion industry, she is hailed as a 'one off' and her rock 'n' roll attitude still has an enduring appeal.

In the last year, she has posed for St Tropez and is currently all over billboards in France in adverts for the brand Eleven Paris.

Daughter of a barmaid and a travel agent, the clothes horse has also been a muse for creatives, inspiriting artists and designers alike.

Kate has designed accessories for Carphone Warehouse and is lined up to be a contributing fashion editor at style bible 'Vogue' magazine this spring.

At 40, Moss shows no signs of losing out to younger rivals. However, there is one young model that she will be keeping her eye on -- her half- sister Lottie (16) who was signed up by Storm, the international model agency, on her 16th birthday.

There's also the prospect of a true blue second-generation Kate Moss looming as her photogenic daughter, Lila Grace is 11, just three years away from the age when her mom, Mossy, was discovered.

Kate is currently enjoying a birthday present from Richard Branson. The airline tycoon gifted her a holiday on his paradise getaway, Necker Island in the Caribbean, which usually costs over a quarter of a million a week to rent.

The model rarely gives interviews but has spoken about the heavy toll her work took on her, especially in her early years in the industry.

She revealed to 'Vanity Fair' that she had a nervous breakdown while she was still a teenager during work on a campaign for Calvin Klein in the early 1990s.

But she recovered and her career has gone from strength to strength. The catwalk star featured in 18 pages of the January/February issue of 'Playboy' magazine, as well as the cover, to celebrate her forthcoming birthday.

In 2011, she married rocker Jamie Hince in a star-studded ceremony in a rural Cotswolds village, with former partner Jefferson Hack -- the father of her daughter Lila Grace -- among the guests.
