Judge slams mother's great betrayal of her baby
THE 21-year-old woman who allowed sex-crazed rock frontman Ian Watkins to abuse her baby committed the greatest betrayal a mother could do, a judge has said.
The obsessed fan was almost half Watkins' age when she first met the singer in around 2008.
She and Watkins began a sexual relationship and the rocker filmed their sex sessions when she was just aged 16.
And between March and April last year, the pair plotted together how they planned to abuse her baby.
Mr Justice Royce said: "That you were manipulated by Watkins may be obvious, but you were a mother. A mother naturally loves, protects, shields, nurtures and cherishes. Your infant would have trusted you implicitly. You totally betrayed that trust. Could there be a greater betrayal?"
The judge said a psychiatric report said Woman A did not appear to be suffering from a mental illness at the time she carried out the abuse.
Jonathan Fuller, defending, said that his client had been "corrupted" by Watkins.
"He darkened her world with drugs and even injected her with heroin," said Mr Fuller.
