Joking Wills makes star Cole feel a right twit over FA tweet

Gordon Rayner

IT could have been very awkward: England player in trouble for Twitter rant against the FA finds himself face to face with the FA's president.

But when Ashley Cole met Prince William at the opening of England's new national football centre yesterday, the prince adeptly pricked the tension by having a joke at the Chelsea player's expense.

Grinning

William and Cole eyed each other nervously as the prince began shaking hands with the players.

But then grinning, William told him: "If you continue to be a naughty boy they'll take your Twitter account off you!"

Cole laughed and covered his eyes with his hand.

The star has been charged with bringing the game into disrepute after calling the FA a "bunch of ****s" for questioning his evidence supporting his club team-mate John Terry, who was found guilty of racially abusing another player.

William and his wife Kate flew by helicopter to the £105m (€130m) St George's Park in Staffordshire where they were given a guided tour of the facilities which include 12 football pitches and two hotels.

The royal couple later watched the England team training on an exact replica of the Wembley Stadium pitch before unveiling a plaque to declare the centre open. (©Daily Telegraph, London)
