'Honey trap' inmate lures prison officer and director

A prison director and a jailer have been suspended and placed under investigation after both admitted an affair with the same 21-year old female prisoner convicted for acting as a "honey trap" to lure a man to his death.

Florent Goncalves (41), the director of the women's prison in Versailles, told police that he had "fallen in love" with Emma Arbabzadeh and intended to rebuild his life with her once she was released. Arbabzadeh, who worked for a group called the Gang of Barbarians, is halfway through a nine-year sentence.

He is under investigation for giving her "preferential treatment" in the form of money, telephone pin cards and other "objects forbidden to inmates".

A 36 year-old prison officer is also under investigation.

Mr Goncalves admitted during questioning to having sexual relations with Miss Arbabzadeh between December 2009 and October 2010. The other man has not had intimate relations with her.

In 2006 Arbabzadeh, a French-Iranian lured Ilan Halimi, a 23 year-old French Jew working in Paris, to the suburb of Sceaux. He was kidnapped and tortured by the gang for three weeks and died of his injuries en route to hospital. (© Daily Telegraph, London).
