Harbour master's log reveals how tragedy unfolded

The log compiled by the Harbour Master at the port of Livorno gives the fullest account yet of the disaster which engulfed the Costa Concordia.

22.06 Police contact Harbour Master's office after hearing dining room ceiling on Concordia has fallen in and passengers ordered to don life jackets.

22.14 Harbour Master contacts Concordia: is there a problem? An officer insists it's just a blackout.

22.16 Nearby police patrol-boat G104 asks if it should check Concordia.

22.17 Harbour Master informs superiors of suspicions there is more wrong with Concordia than being admitted.

22.26 Harbour Master contacts ship's captain, Francesco Schettino. He says ship is taking on water through opening on left side, ship is listing. No dead or injured. Requests tug boat.

22.34 Harbour Master contacts Concordia, which sends "distress" message: they are now evacuating 3,208 passengers and 1,023 crew.

22.39 Patrol-boat reports ship leaning heavily to one side; then grounded.

22.45 Schettino denies this; he will try to bring her around.

22.48 Harbour Master asks Concordia to consider abandoning ship. Answer: "We are considering it".

22.58 Schettino tells Harbour Master he has given order to abandon ship.
