'God arrest ye merry gentlemen' - Suspected drink driver hides from police in nativity scene

A suspected drink-driver was not so wise when he tried to hide from police - in a nativity scene.

The motorist sought refuge among hay bales and the baby Jesus after the car he was driving crashed into a metal barrier in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire.

He attempted to hide from officers in a large shed, which was housing a nativity, around 200 metres from the site of the Mini Cooper smash on the A659.

However, North Yorkshire Police said they located the suspect and arrested him as they posted a picture of the crash on Twitter on Saturday.

The incident sparked a flurry of humorous comments from social media users:
