Girl (4) helps to jail dad after stabbing
A four-year-old girl was the key witness in jailing her father after he stabbed her mother in an "atrocious" attack, a prosecutor said yesterday.
Michael Saunders (48), of Swindon, south-west England, was handed a 12-year prison sentence at Bristol Crown Court after pleading guilty to attempted murder.
Saunders slashed his partner across the face in front of their four-year-old daughter and while their two-year-old was asleep in his cot.
Rachael Marshall, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: "It was the child that urged Saunders to call for an ambulance. No child should ever witness such a distressing scene."
