A FORMER member of the SS has become one of the last alleged Nazi war criminals to go on trial, accused of murdering a Dutch resistance fighter.
Siert Bruins (92) who was born in Holland spoke only to confirm his personal details in Hagen, western Germany yesterday. Asked his nationality, he said: "I have been German since 1942."
He is accused of killing Aldert Klaas Dijkema in 1944 in Appingedam, near the German border in Holland. If convicted, he faces a life sentence. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
