SHE's usually a model of diplomacy who never puts a foot wrong during public engagements.
But royal mum-to-be Kate Middleton couldn't disguise her look of horror when she came face to face with a lookalike doll on a visit to Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland.
As the duchess greeted a crowd of wellwishers, a young fan was keen to show Kate her favourite plastic royal doll, dressed in a replica of the blue Issa dress Kate wore when she announced her engagement.
Dayna Miller (11), from nearby Coylton, said she'd got the doll as a Christmas present from her mother, who bought it online.
But the shocked look on the duchess's face told its own story. Afterwards Dayna said: "She looked at it and she said 'Does my hair look like that?'" Then she asked me where I got it from." She added: "Kate's much prettier than the doll."
Kate recovered her equilibrium quickly and flashed a winning smile to the waiting photographers.
Wearing a red Armani coat, black tights, boots and gloves, the princess, who is six months' pregnant, was handed several posies and soft toys as she spoke to members of the public.
