Diana's Travolta dance dress fetches €570,000
A DRESS worn by Princess Diana when she danced with actor John Travolta sold for CAD$800,000 (€570,000) at an auction yesterday in Toronto featuring some of her well known designer gowns.
The princess, who would have turned 50 next week, wore the midnight-blue, silk and velvet dress designed by Victor Edelstein while taking a memorable spin on the dancefloor with Travolta during a 1985 White House state dinner in Washington.
Before the sale, auction house Waddington's had listed the estimated selling price of the dress between CAD$800,000 and CAD$1m.
Stephen Ranger, vice president of business development for Waddington's, says it will take a few days to compile a final tally for all of the 14 dresses sold at the collection.
