Couple halt sailing trip after Lotto jackpot win
A retired couple who had embarked on a 10-week sailing holiday around Britain made an unscheduled stop when they realised their numbers had come up on the lottery.
Richard and Cathy Brown, aged 66 and 64, from Ipswich, were enjoying a trip of a lifetime when they realised they had won the £6.1m (€7.2m) jackpot.
The couple had only made it 250 miles north to Newcastle when they discovered they had won the prize.
Mr and Mrs Brown docked yesterday and celebrated by using their pensioners' bus passes to travel into the city for a gin and tonic.
Speaking beside their 40ft yacht, Mr Brown said he discovered the news after downloading a lottery app on his phone.
"Cathy was looking over my shoulder, first of all to see the app in action and then we both realised we had four, five, and then six of the numbers. I turned to my wife of 39 years and said 'You're a multi-millionaire'."
"This is simply the icing on the cake," Mrs Brown added. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
