Three companies are to be prosecuted over the death of a five-year-old girl who died after becoming trapped by a lift.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said Synergy Housing Limited, Aster Property Limited and Orona Limited would face magistrates next year accused of breaching Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

The charges relate to the death of Alexys Brown, who died from head and neck injuries after becoming trapped between a lift and a ceiling at her home in Weymouth, Dorset, in August 2015.

Alexys, known as Lexi, was the youngest of three children of Lorraine and Matthew Brown.

A spokeswoman for the HSE said: "The Health and Safety Executive is prosecuting Synergy Housing Limited, Aster Property Limited and Orona Limited for breaches of Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

"This follows the death of five-year-old Alexys Brown at her family home in Weymouth, Dorset, on August 13 2015.

"The defendants are next due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates' Court on 16 February 2018."
