But her sister Perdita Weeks said on Twitter that she has now been found "safe and sound".
Sussex Police confirmed Weeks, from Petworth, has been found safe and well and said she is now with officers.
The force said she was found safe and well at a relative's address in London at about 7.45pm, and that person notified police.
A spokesman said: "She remained with police as of 10.45pm on Friday, prior to being returned to West Sussex."
Ms Weeks (36) is best known for her starring role as Samantha Stewart in the ITV wartime drama series Foyle's War.
Three feature length episodes of the show, which ran from 2002 to 2015, were part-filmed in Dublin and Bray, Co Wicklow.
Weeks was last seen in Graylingwell Drive, Chichester, West Sussex, at 9pm on Thursday and was reported missing an hour later.
Police said her recent behaviour had been a concern to family and friends as she had been "feeling anxious".
She has recently finished working on shooting Lewis for ITV and Sky mystery The Five but is best known for her portrayal of the character Samantha Stewart in the wartime drama Foyle's War, starring in the ITV show from 2002 to 2010 and appearing again in 2013 and 2015.
She has also appeared in TV favourites The Bill, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries and Death In Paradise.
An Oxford graduate, she is married to retired city broker Lorne Stormont-Darling and had her first son Wade in 2011.
She has recently starred in Lewis, Death in Paradise and Foyle's War.
In an interview in May last year, she described how the filming of Foyle's War had come during " a period of my life where the most life-changing things have happened," from children and marriage to "people getting ill" and the "usual slings and arrows that life is beset with".
A spokesman for the actress declined to comment, but confirmed she had recently finished working on shooting Lewis for ITV and Sky mystery The Five.
She married hypnotherapist Lorne Stormonth-Darling in an impromptu Buddhist wedding ceremony while on holiday in the Himalayas in 2005, followed by a London wedding in July 2007.
The couple have one child, Wade born in 2011, and live in London.
Ms Weeks has spoken of how much she loved Dublin in the past. In a 2013 interview with the Telegraph, the actress said she spent five months filming and she "fell in love with Dublin".
The actress said she "loved the energy of Dublin" and spent her free time "walking along the Grand Canal and soaking up the atmosphere of the city."
