A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his baby daughter on Christmas Day.

Lee Parker (33) was charged on Wednesday following the death of six-month-old Aya Parker.

Parker, of Britton Gardens, Kingswood, Bristol, appeared before Bristol Magistrates Court to face the single charge.

No details about the case were given and Parker was not asked to enter a plea.

Andrew Escott-Watson, prosecuting, told the court: "The victim was the infant daughter of the defendant.

"The only thing that remains is a date to be set for the Crown Court for the bail hearing."

Chair of the bench Louise Perkins adjourned the case until Friday.

"We are sending this to the Crown Court," she told Parker. "The venue will be at Bristol Magistrates Court tomorrow at 10am."

Aya died in the early hours of Sunday morning despite the efforts of police and paramedics at a property in Britton Gardens.
