An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a teenage girl who was found dead on a pathway in Rotherham, South Yorkshire Police said.

Leonne Weeks (16) was discovered in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on Monday morning and police are treating her death as suspicious.

The youngster's body was discovered on a pathway in the Dinnington area of Rotherham on Monday.

South Yorkshire Police were called to the scene at about 10.55am after receiving reports from members of the public.

Superintendent Sarah Poolman said: "The investigation is in its very early stages, however we are treating the death as suspicious.

"To provide reassurance to the local community and wider general public, additional police patrols are in place and will continue over the coming days.

"I would urge anyone who believes they have information about the incident to please come forward."

Before the teenager's body was discovered her family launched a series of appeals on Facebook.

Ms Weeks' uncle Danny Bowskill wrote: "If any 1 sees my niece Leonne Weeks let me know asap as not been home."

A family friend said that Ms Weeks' had arranged to meet a man she met online before she went missing.

Tributes flooded in for the teenager who was described as "kind, amazing and beautiful".
