Father who raped his gay daughter to prove 'sex was better with men' jailed for 21 years

A teenager who confided in her father that she was gay was brutally raped by him in a bid to 'prove' to her that sex with a man was better, a court in the UK heard.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identities of his victims, also attacked his two other daughters, who have suffered abuse from him across two decades.

He was jailed for 21 years after being found guilty of three rapes during the 1980s and 90s, the Coventry Telegraph reported.

His 16-year-old daughter told him how she was struggling with her identity and that she fancied girls.

He reacted with an "uncontrolled" anger and raped her.

"As a 16-year-old girl she realised she was gay and struggling with her identity as many people do at that age, she decided to tell you," Judge Lockhart told Warwick Crown Court.

"You reacted by showing real and uncontrolled anger, and you decided to rape her to show her why it would be better to have sex with men than women. Her evidence made harrowing listening."

The judge added that the crime involved "degradation and humiliation" for the victim.

"The offence demonstrated your hostility towards her as a lesbian," the judge added.

The 54-year-old had pleaded not guilty to a total of nine charges of indecent assault, one of indecency with a child and three of rape.

His barrister Sally Hancox had argued that the offences could be dealt with by a 'determinate sentence', pointing out that since his offending ended there had been a number of years without him committing any further offences.
