Comedian Sean Hughes had wanted a 'cheerful' funeral and that is what he got as his fellow comics bid their final farewell to him.

Among those who attended the funeral at Islington and Camden Cemetery in London yesterday were comedians Jack Dee, David Baddiel and Johnny Vegas.

Also paying his last respects was Phill Jupitus, who appeared alongside Hughes on panel show 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks'.

Hughes' brothers, Alan and Martin, had issued an open invitation to anyone who had been a "significant part of Sean's life, at any stage" to join the family yesterday. The funeral was followed by a wake.

Hughes (51), who was born in London but grew up in Firhouse, Dublin, died on October 16 following a short illness. It is understood he suffered a heart attack following a flare-up of cirrhosis of the liver.
