Boy (8) discovered curled up in suitcase on Spanish border
An eight-year-old boy was discovered inside a wheel-along suitcase by customs officials on the Spanish border.
The boy was discovered after the small, hard-shell suitcase was put through an X-ray machine.
Customs officials on the border of Morocco and Spain noticed the child curled up inside.
The owner of the suitcase, a 19-year-old woman, was pulled aside as she went through security as officials believed she looked 'nervous'.
Officials scanned her suitcase after they believed she may have been smuggling drugs into the country.
According to reports, when he realised he had been discovered, the boy poked his head and said, in French; "Hello, my name is Abou".
Police said that the discovery, made on the Spanish border city of Cueta, could have had a tragic ending.
"This could have had a tragic end," according to a member of the Civil Guard, who suggested the boy could have smothered in the small bag.
The eight-year-old has now been taken into custody and police have arrested a man from the Ivory Coast, believed to be the boy's father.
Police believe the woman was asked to smuggle the child into the country for a large fee.
