The body discovered yesterday evening in the search for Amber Peat has now been confirmed as that of the missing 13-year-old girl.
Nottinghamshire Police have confirmed this evening that the body found in an area off Westfield Lane, Mansfield, in the UK was that of the missing teen.
"Her body was out of sight and would not have been apparent to anyone in the area nearby," according to the police report.
Specialist officers are with Amber’s family at this difficult time and Superintendent Matthew McFarlane has thanked everyone for their help in the search to find Amber.
"From the moment Amber was reported missing our teams worked tirelessly alongside the community to try and find her," said Supt Matthew McFarlane said.
"Over four hundred officers and staff, including those from our five neighbouring East Midlands forces, were looking for her. Sadly this was not the outcome that any of us were hoping for.
Amber’s mum and stepdad, Kelly and Danny, have said that they were particularly touched by the amazing support they received from the community.
They have paid tribute to their daughter, saying:
“We will always remember Amber for her love of singing and dancing.
“She was never happier than when reading to her younger sisters and being surrounded by her family.
“We will always be grateful for our last family holiday with our beautiful daughter. We will always miss her”
Supt McFarlane concluded his statement by saying: "Our thoughts are with Amber’s family, and we do ask that you please respect their privacy and that of her wider family."
