Bleach bottle woman given hospital order
A woman who gave the baby of a complete stranger a feeding bottle containing bleach has been given a hospital order.
The 11-month-old boy drank some of the liquid and vomited after being handed the bottle in a branch of McDonald's, Woolwich Crown Court was told.
A jury last month found that Elaine Joyner (53) of Deptford, south-east London, had administered a poison or noxious substance so as to endanger life.
Judge Andrew Lees ruled that she was unfit to plead so a trial to decide whether she carried out the act took place in her absence.
Joyner was ordered to remain at Bethlem Royal Hospital until she is no longer deemed a risk to the public.
The court heard that the mother made a statement in which she said: "As far as I was concerned, my baby had been poisoned."
