Bike mascot is winner by a long nose
IT ALMOST beggars belief, or perhaps, on reflection, it could not be more appropriate.
Cycling is currently reeling from revelations of how Lance Armstrong cheated his way to a record-breaking seven Tour de France wins.
And in a master-stroke of publicity, the new mascot for the World Cycling Championships in Tuscany, Italy, is the most famous liar of all -- Pinocchio.
The choice of Pinocchio is apparently due to his Tuscan origins, given the figure first appears in 1883 in a fairytale written by the Florentine author, Carlo Collodi. (© Independent News Service)
