End of pop romance devastates Williams

GIRL group All Saints flew back to Britain last night after Nicole Appleton called off her seven-week engagement to fellow pop star Robbie Williams.

The band's spokeswoman at London Records confirmed that Nicole (22) had ended the six-month relationship ``because of work commitments.''

She said: ``It's just mad for them at the moment.''

Nicole broke the news to Robbie in a phone call from Mexico City during All Saints' promotional tour of South America last week.

``They are still friends,'' the spokeswoman went on to say, ``but they are both going to concentrate on their careers.

``They have decided to call it a day because of their work commitments.''

But 24-year-old Robbie is said to be devastated by Nicole's rejection.

The All Saints spokeswoman said: ``Their schedule is solid for a month now.

``They are going to Denmark next week and then go into rehearsals for the V98 festival in Chelmsford and Leeds at the end of the month.''

Nicole and Robbie became an item in January, but split in March and Robbie was seen out with other women.

They got back together, and seven weeks ago happy Nicole revealed Robbie had proposed.

In the past, former Take That star Robbie has gone out with actress Anna Friel and was linked with Mel C of the Spice Girls.

He had a huge hit with Angel and his first solo album Life Thru A Lens, but has fought a public battle with drink and drugs.

Nicole's sister Natalie, 25, is also part of All Saints. Her own relationship with O-Zone presenter Jamie Theakston is reportedly rocky.

Another group member Melanie Blatt is five months pregnant and recently posed with her pop star boyfriend Stuart Zender of Jamiroquai for a glossy magazine.
